THE BIG PICTURE

Community College vs University

Community college can be a first step toward a bachelor’s degree. A four-year university offers a different starting experience. Your academic goals and total costs should guide the choice.

Two starting points. Your own destination.

01

Compare the degree you are entering

Start with your own goal: the degree and subject you want to finish, your preferred location and your realistic budget. Then compare the relevant program details, rather than choosing on a college name or a ranking alone.

02

Understand the transfer application

Ask for current written information about the services, requirements and pathway you need. Record the source and date, and separate confirmed facts from details that still need an admissions adviser’s answer.

03

Look beyond tuition to campus life

Build a course and application plan with the college and intended receiving university. A transfer agreement can be useful, but check the conditions, grades, deadlines and credits that apply to your chosen major.

Information you can check.

This is a general planning guide. Institutional fees, accepted tests, transfer agreements and deadlines must be checked directly. No unverified college ranking is presented.
